Costa Rican food is generally known to be simple with a pleasant mild flavour. However, it is also common to have big jars on the tables filled with vegetables that have been mixed with chiles.
Rice and beans are the basis of many meals. The ‘Ticos’, as Costa Ricans are commonly known, like to eat tortillas made of maize, eggs, fresh local cheese, fried sweet plantains (relatives of bananas) and meat, including fresh caught seafood. Popular drinks are coffee, fruit juices and sodas.
Costa Rican food is: Healthy, filling and tasty! It is fresh and locally grown. It is simple, wholesome and full of nutrition.
